Gerry recently flew to Dallas, TX to watch the ever so popular NASCAR races at the Texas Motor Speedway. There were truck races, car races, t-shirts for sale and lots of cheap beer. This is how its done folks (apparantely).

NASCAR Mania

Cycling class
I have never been one to want to pay for a gym membership. Even in dark, cold Alaska you'll find me running down a trail with a big fluffy coat, hat & gloves and my dog Jasper. I think I might have been convinced otherwise though as I experienced a cycling class for the very first time. Amanda (sis-n-law) invited me to go before Drew's birthday party at a local gym in Wasilla. What a butt kicker, quite literally. So much fun though. Image bringing your stationary bike to a night club and that is the fun we experienced. Strobe lights, loud music and sweat were the venue of the hour (or 45 minutes to be exact). I think I just might need to get a punch card somewheres to get my fix of cycling, night club style.
Drew Bacon turns 8!
My nephew, Drew Aaron Bacon, turned 8 yesterday. I can hardly believe he's growing up so fast. We celebrated with a roudy boy party that ended up with a bloody nose, a loose tooth and a poor sissy who just had a hard time keeping it together. Despite the craziness, everything settled down and presents were opened, many smiles were created, and yummy triple chocolate cake landed in bellies. Thanks J & A for such a fun party!
New Car
Finally we have become a two car family. Gerry and I have been "shopping around" for a fuel efficient vehicle for about a year now (as our truck is OBVIOUSLY NOT fuel efficient). As life changed, moved up to Alaska, etc, we realized it was now or never. One saturday we were searching around Anchorage and stumbled across this beauty. We can now call it our own. It is a 2008 Subaru Outback Wagon with the winter package (heated seats, heated windshield wipers, heated back window, extra ground clearance, and more). Gerry sure is enjoying the ability to drive anywhere his heart desires as we each have our own vehicle now.
Funny Hotel
During our stay in Redbluff we (Jen, Jimmy & I ) decided to bunk at the nearest, cheapest hotel we could find. This turned out to be a mistake. We settled on the Cinderella Hotel with a typical room includeing two queen beds for $165 for three nights. What you see in the pictures is what we found. Cinderella had abondoned this hotel a LOOONG time before. Instead the spiders were there to visit us. Notice the crack in the wall and the crooked door jam too. We found out the hotel is actually settling into the sacramento river. Lucky for us we didn't get the least bit damp. The only redeeming value of the room was the forever lasting hot water in the shower. We affectionately called it the "Step sister Hotel" instead. All in all it made for a good laugh.
Aaron's Wedding

October 18, 2008 is when it all went down. We all flew to California to celebrate 4 days of fun in Chico, CA.
Here's how it all played out...
Day 1 (for me anyways, October 16)
**Arrive in Sacramento, CA 4 hours late because Delta Air decided to have weather delays. This provided the pleasant opportunity to sleep in a brightly lighted airport in then international terminal of Anchorage, AK. Boy was I tired. Did I mention that there was Japanese language spewed over the innercom about every hour. That was fun.
**Drive to Redbluff, CA in a hurry, shower in a hurry, drive to Abie's parents house for family dinner, hang out and meet so many peole I can't possible remember all of their names, have worship service around a campfire, to bed exhausted.
Day 2 (Oct 17)
**Run around Redbluff buying FANTASTIC local pottery, decoration and flowers for rehearsal dinner.
**Rehearsal, rehearsal dinner, caffiene run to local coffee shop (yummy mexican mocha), swing dance lessons at dance studio.
Day 3 (Oct 18)
**Wake up toooo early, get all fancied up (as I as part of the bridal party), go to Abie's parents house, take many many pictures (I think I still have a perma-grin), arrive at church, wedding (really nice AND short & sweet), more pictures, drive to reception at Abie's parents house, see a ton of people I haven't seen in like a million years (Hi again Schauermans, Westbrooks, Lee Wilson, Jack Wade, Mark Mielbreck, Bacon relatives, Haakonson relatives, Clemens, Bolands, etc), crash from exhaustion once again.
Day 4 (Oct 19)
**Fly home, wait too long in sacramento and seattle airports, get home at about 10pm.

It has been a long time....
Hello again everyone!
Life has been running at hurricane speed and I finally have a little time to tell you what has been going on.
First, I need to thank Julie Preston for bringing me back to blogging. She ever so nicely reminded me that there are still people who want to know the goings-on in our lives.
Second, I have been preoccupied with too many different avenues of communication. I have two different emails, a blog and a facebook account. I have found that I simply can't keep up with every single one so here's my plan of action. I will be getting rid of my poepoeheather@yahoo.com account. It will be replaced with poepoeheather@gmail.com. Make note everyone. EMAIL CHANGED!!!
I will also be checking my facebook account MUCH LESS! It can really be addicting when you get into it. So note this for yourselves....email at poepoeheather@gmail.com or a phone call is the best way to get ahold of me...NOT facebook or at my yahoo email account.
Whew, now thats done...here's a little bit of the craziness of our lives.

Visiting family
The Poe family in Soldotna, Alaska. It was crazy to come back after 4 years and see just how much these kids have grown. When we left the oldest (pictured playing the video game) had just been born. We sure are glad to be back around family!
Princess Birthday
My niece, Morgan felicity aka "sincess", turned 4 this past September. We moved up just in time to come to her Princess birthday party. There's nothing like a memorable birthday party with friends when your young. Happy Birthday Morgan!
Going home....the drive through Canada to Alaska
So after many days of driving and lots of unpacking...we're finally settled in Alaska!!! Although the trip was very LOOOOONNNG (5 days of driving about 10-13 hours per day), it was beautiful fall weather. We were also able to stop off in some fun places like Liard Hotsprings in BC and Leavenworth, Washington.
Here's beautiful Leavenworth, Washington. They call it "Little Bravaria" for good reason.
Gerry pumped gas into our black beauty quite a bit on this trip...yikes!

The Canadian Border Guard.
Camping out at Whiskers Point, BC. We were the only people camping there and wouldn't you know we found a critter trying to get into Jasper's dog food. We accidently left it in the truck bed, oops! Good thing there weren't any hungry bears around.
Liard Hotsprings. We nearly missed it because we thought it was by the town of Upper Liard which in fact it was 2 hours south. We pulled in at about 9pm, pitched a tent and found ourselves relaxing the next morning in the springs. Good thing because it was very cold and rainy there.
Other highlights of the trip...beautiful fall scenery, Jasper bored outta his mind, etc. We saw 7 bear, 3 mooose, 3 caribou, 1 wolf, 1 critter trying to eat Jazzy's food, alotta bison and too many road kill.
